Blur faces

Before posting a photo, hide the faces that should not be recognised: all of them, a few, or only the children. The tool finds them, you choose. The photo never leaves your device.

Première fois ? Le déroulé, pas à pas

Good to know

Is my photo sent anywhere?

No. Finding the faces and blurring them is done by your browser, on your device. The photo goes through neither our server nor any other, and nothing is kept: close the page and everything is gone.

Does the tool recognise people?

No. It spots that there is a face somewhere in the picture, from its shape. It does not know whose it is, compares the photo to no other and remembers nothing.

Can it blur only the children?

Not by itself, and that is deliberate: the age of a face cannot be guessed reliably, and a mistake would leave a child recognisable without your noticing. The safe way is quick: choose “Blur all”, then tap the adults to make them sharp again.

A face was not found, what can I do?

Tap it: a circle is placed on it. Drag its round handle to make it bigger or smaller, drag the circle to move it; the next circles take the same size. You can also draw the area by dragging your finger or the mouse. Faces in profile, from behind, very small, half hidden or wearing sunglasses often escape detection: always look at the whole photo before posting it.

Can the blur be removed afterwards?

Not from the downloaded photo: the original pixels of the face are no longer in it. But a blur that is too light lets a figure, a hairstyle, sometimes the person show through. For a posted photo, keep the strength high, or choose the mosaic or the cover. Your original photo stays untouched on your device.

Do I need people's consent to post a photo?

In France, everyone has a right over their own image: posting the photo of a recognisable person requires their consent in principle, and the parents' for a child. Blurring a face is one way to post when you do not have it. Careful: a person can remain recognisable from their clothes, a tattoo or the place.

Which formats and sizes?

JPG, PNG and WebP. The photo is returned as JPG, at its original size up to 4,096 pixels a side (beyond that, it is reduced to that size). iPhone HEIC photos first go through the Convert HEIC to JPG tool, except on an iPhone, where they are converted automatically.

Then make the photo lighter for an e-mail or a form
