Free music for your videos

Type a mood, a style or a sound effect: we search the best royalty-free music sites for you, and prepare the credit to put under your video.

Première fois ? Le déroulé, pas à pas
  1. Choisissez « Musique » ou « Bruitages ».

Good to know

What does “royalty-free” mean?

Not “no strings attached”: the music still belongs to its author, who lets you use it for free under a license. Before downloading, check on the track page whether you must credit the author and whether commercial use (ads, company videos) is allowed.

How do I credit the author?

In the video description, or in the end credits: title, author, license and a link to the track. The “Copy the credit” buttons prepare it for you. Even when it isn't required, artists appreciate a credit.

What do CC BY, CC BY-SA and CC0 mean?
  • CC0 or public domain: no conditions, not even a credit.
  • CC BY: free use, including commercial, as long as you credit the author.
  • CC BY-SA: credit the author, and share your video under the same license. Fine for a non-profit video, less so for an ad.
  • NC (non-commercial) and ND (no derivatives): avoid them for a company video or a track you will cut. They are excluded from the tracks offered here.
YouTube flags a copyright claim on my video: what now?

Some free tracks are registered in YouTube's detection system (Content ID). Dispute the claim from YouTube Studio, giving the license and the link to the track. Keep a screenshot of the license page when you download. For zero hassle on YouTube, the YouTube Studio audio library is the safest.

Can I use a song by a famous artist?

No, not even a few seconds, even with a credit: you need the rights holders' permission. On Instagram, TikTok or Facebook, pick the music offered by the app: it is covered by their agreements, but only inside the app.

Are my searches recorded?

No. The words you search for are sent to Openverse (the WordPress Foundation's search engine for open works) without your address, and the answer is kept for 7 days so as not to ask twice. Previews play from the original site (Jamendo, Freesound) only when you press play.
